For World Alzheimer’s Day, this Thursday, September 21, the teams from the geriatrics and neurology medical resource and research center of the Nancy CHRU are mobilizing their forces to enlighten the general public on the causes of the disease, its evolution and its mechanisms. A dive into the depths of this neurodegenerative disease which today affects nearly a million French people and, collaterally, some three million people if we include the patients’ entourage.
The aging of the population means that the disease is gaining ground. Around 225,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. According to the France Alzheimer’s association, “by 2020, our country will probably have 1,275,000 sick people.” So many situations of distress for the sick and dismay for their loved ones.
To understand the disease and allow families to navigate its maze, the Nancy CHRU is offering two conferences this Thursday. The first will start at 6 p.m., at the Ferme du Charmois in Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy. Organized by the Synap’s association, it will address “memory and preconceived ideas about the brain”. The second will take place at the same time from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the amphitheater of the presidency of the University of Lorraine, 34, Cours Léopold in Nancy.
Around the question: “How can we facilitate the daily inclusion of people living with early-onset progressive cognitive disorders?” », it will bring together a bouquet of specialists: Dr Marc Tenenbaum, deputy mayor and delegate for Prevention and public health actions, Erwan Claudel, public health project manager in the city of Nancy, Michel Vuillemin, president of France Alzheimer 54, Dr Thérèse Jonveaux, neurologist and coordinator of the Lorraine Memory Resource and Research Center of the neurology department of the Nancy CHRU, and Isabelle Donnio, consultant psychologist, lecturer at the School of Advanced Health Studies Public (EHESP) in Rennes and co-founder of Bistrots-Mémoire.
