September 21 is World Alzheimer’s Day every year. This year, in Steenwijkerland, the focus is on the Forget-me-not, symbol of a dementia-friendly society. The advocates of Alzheimer Nederland from Steenwijkerland also ask for the necessary attention for the disease dementia throughout the month of September this year.
In recent months there has been plenty of crocheting by many ladies from Steenwijkerland and surroundings. What started with a small idea ended up as a huge pile of crochet forget-me-nots. The blue flowers with the yellow heart are nice to see and easy for experienced crocheters to make. Grietje Middelbrink, employee of the Dementheek has been busy with it for months. “It’s so much fun to do, people are enthusiastic and our Dementheek is getting better and better.” More than 2000 flowers have now been crocheted and delivered to the Dementheek.
Attention all month
In September, attention will be paid to the disease dementia in various places in Steenwijkerland in the existing coffee moments. These are from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Everywhere a dementia case manager connects, from the various care organizations. For example, Zorggroep Oude en Nieuwe Land, Zorggroep Noorderboog, PGVZ and Social Work De Kop are involved from the Network Dementia Steenwijkerland. During the coffee moments, information and experiences will be shared about the disease dementia. And there is a forget-me-not for everyone with a card from the Dementheek. The coffee moments are in Giethoorn, Oldemarkt, Steenwijk, Sint Jansklooster, Vollenhove, Steenwijkerwold and Blokzijl.
Together on the Market
On Thursday afternoon, September 21, there will be an information and meeting point about dementia and memory problems at the Markt in Steenwijk from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Paula Bierma of Social Work De Kop: “Case managers and working group members will be present here. This year, too, extra attention will be paid to the Dementheek, because this beautiful place in the hall of residential care center Zonnekamp is for anyone who wants to know more about dementia. There is plenty of information and many interesting games to borrow. But above all, the place for a good conversation, to vent and share your story. The coffee is available every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.”
