The National Planning Department continues to support Bogotá to consolidate urban and regional mobility with the approval of the National Council for Economic and Social Policy (Conpes), to guarantee the start of construction of the underground line of the Bogotá Metro.
Investment in the second line of the Metro
The new line will have a total investment of 34.9 billion pesos, 70% of the resources will be given by the Nation and the remaining 30% by the Capital District. The construction will favor the towns of Chapinero and Barrios Unidos, It is estimated that the Metro line moves about 49,000 passengers per hour.
“This time it is not a meter and a cardboard check, but a check funded with fiscal guarantee and future validity committed by the Nation and the District. I celebrate that we went from the speech of the underground metro, to building it towards Suba-Engativá in 2023, and to using it from 2031, ”said the mayor Claudia López on her Twitter account.
Suba and Engativá will have their first underground Metro line, both projects are expected to improve the quality of life of inhabitants of towns such as Suba, Engativá, Fontibón and Puente Aranda.
The construction of the second Metro line will benefit 1.4 million people and, in addition, it will decrease by 88,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Bogota 2022 Budget Addendum
For the future of projects in Bogotá, the Council approved 812,000 million pesos for the advancement and execution of projects for the year 2022. Thus, the city budget went from 28.5 billion pesos to 29.3 billion pesos.
How were the funds distributed?
- Education: 241 billion pesos.
- Health: 238 billion pesos.
- Social Integration: 125 billion pesos.
- Cover needs for 196,000 million pesos in housing improvements.
