Works costing 8.85 million euros on the Montluçon-Commentry (Allier) railway line

Part of the work on the Montluçon-Commentry (Allier) line will consist of replacing certain sections of rails, ties and ballast as well as certain switches. “These components of the railway line are parts exposed to bad weather and to the significant stresses caused by the movement of trains. They have a limited life and it is therefore necessary to replace them at regular intervals, ”explains SNCF network.

Construction sites on engineering structures

Work is also planned to replace the signal cables at level crossings 223 and 224 at Chamblet and 225 at Néris-les-Bains, as well as at Commentry station. Some structures will finally undergo “regeneration” between Montluçon and Commentry.

A significant amount committed

This work involves around fifty people and costs 8.85 million euros. They are financed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (74%), the State (21%) and SNCF network (5%), as part of the regional plan to rescue small rail lines.

Adapted transport

“During this period, the SNCF set up substitute coaches between Montluçon and the stations of Gannat and Riom. In these last two municipalities, the connection will be ensured on the trains connecting Clermont-Ferrand ”, affirms SNCF network.

What are the challenges of the A79 (Allier) site?

Road substitutions will also be put in place between Clermont-Ferrand and Montluçon. Some will be direct, others will provide services.
