Human Resources Mayor Jan Pratzka signed today, Thursday, December 7, 2023, together with Social Mayor Dr. Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann presented the employer declaration “#positivework” from Deutsche Aidshilfe. The state capital Dresden is thus committed to dealing with HIV-positive employees in a non-discriminatory manner.
While the diagnosis of “HIV positive” meant a death sentence for almost all patients in the 1980s, today HIV-positive people can lead a largely normal life thanks to modern therapies. This also includes participation in working life. An HIV infection is irrelevant to work these days. Thanks to highly effective medications, people with HIV can live and work like everyone else and are just as productive.
Social Mayor Dr. Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann: “We as the state capital of Dresden are in favor of non-discriminatory treatment of HIV-positive colleagues. At the same time, we are proud of the very good cooperation with Aidshilfe Dresden that has been going on for over 30 years. In the area of self-help for HIV-positive people, the Dresden city administration, together with Aidshilfe Dresden, was able to build up very good structures.”
Human Resources Mayor Jan Pratzka: “It goes without saying that we as the Dresden city administration support the #positivework initiative. It is important to me to promote respectful treatment of people with HIV in everyday work and to counteract any form of discrimination in connection with HIV.”
