Workers-Students Will Surround The DPR Rejects Job Creation Law

A number of elements laborer and students who are members of the Joint People’s Labor Movement (Gebrak) will again hold a follow-up action demanding the annulment of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Create Work today, Tuesday (17/11).

Secretary General of the Indonesian Trade Union Alliance Congress (Kasbi) Sunarno said the action, which was claimed to be attended by 1,500 participants, would be held in front of the DPR / MPR Building Complex, before moving to the front of the Ministry of Education and Culture Building.

“At least 10.00-11.00 hours until the DPR, until around 13.00 only the convoy goes to the Ministry of Education and Culture,” said Sunarno to CNNIndonesia.com, Tuesday (17/11).


Sunarno said that apart from workers and students, students were reportedly going to join the action to commemorate International Student Day.

The action will be continued with long march from the front of the Parliament Complex to the Kemendikbud office.

“So the choice which is close to the Ministry of Education and Culture and indeed the DPR, must also be accountable for the messy Omnibus ratification,” he said.

“We demand that it be canceled,” added Sunarno.

Spokesperson for Gebrak, Nining Elitos, revealed that workers and students in this action wanted to remind the polemic of the Job Creation Law because they suspect that there have been attempts to divert the issue in recent times.

In this action, they put forward four demands, namely revoking the Job Creation Law, canceling the Minister of Manpower’s Decree regarding the absence of an increase in the 2021 minimum wage, stopping the repressiveness of the apparatus and freeing criminalized protesters, and free education fees during the pandemic.

“Everyone reminds the public not to forget the issue of the Job Creation Act and wage increases,” said Nining.

Meanwhile, hundreds of workers from 16 elements of trade unions in Bandung, West Java will also carry out a similar action in front of Gedung Sate and the Office of Manpower and Transmigration (Disnakertrans).

Chairman of the Central Executive of the Federation of Clothing and Leather Workers Union Federation of All Indonesian Workers (FSP TSK SPSI) Roy Jinto said that the combined trade unions in West Java will continue to fight in a measured, directed, and constitutional manner.

“That’s right, we are holding a demonstration. The demand to repeal Law No. 11 of 2020 on Job Creation,” Roy said.

In addition to asking the Job Creation Law to be repealed, Roy will also question the follow-up on the hearing with West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil on November 9.

During the hearing, the workers submitted their demands regarding the revision of the Decree (SK) of the Bekasi Regency / City UMSK in 2020, the revision of the 2020 Bogor UMSK Decree, to the stipulation of the UMSK SK for the Karawang Regency according to the recommendation of the Karawang Regent.

In addition, the workers asked for the revision of the 2021 UMP SK to be increased by 8.82 percent.

“At that time, the governor conveyed accommodating the aspirations of workers, but until now the demands of the workers have not been answered by the governor,” he said.

If the workers do not respond according to expectations, Roy said there would be a bigger wave of demonstrations from trade unions and labor unions throughout West Java from 19-21 November.
