Workers ‘overwhelm’ the Judiciary and will continue the strike

Workers’ resistance to ending the strike in the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF) folded to the Federal Judicial Council (CJF) and the agreement that established the resumption of activities next Monday in all courts and tribunals was withdrawn, so that the Judiciary would prioritize the Analysis of the challenges against the reform of the PJF.

The members of the CJF once again showed their division in the face of the demands of the organizations that represent the workers.

Councilors Sergio Javier Molina Martínez and José Alfonso Montalvo Martínez, who last Wednesday supported the resumption of work on Monday in all judicial circuits, yesterday changed the direction of their vote and again supported the proposals of the president of the Court, Norma Piña Hernández, so, together with their colleague Lilia Mónica López Benítez, they changed the criteria adopted two days earlier and by a majority of four to three it was resolved that there are no conditions for the return to activities.

Councillors Bernardo Bátiz, Celia Maya García and Eva Verónica de Gyvés maintained their position that work should resume.

The above, in the middle of a demonstration in which hundreds of PJF workers participated, who did not stop shouting slogans and demanding support from Montalvo and Martínez, whom they called traitors of the support they said they would give to the fight against judicial reform.

The chants and sounds of rattles, bugles, whistles and drums “were heard throughout the meeting. They –the councilors– knew of the support, that we would not give up,” said one of the members of the working group that belongs to the so-called 32 United Circuits Movement.

Thus, while the workers were demonstrating in front of the CJF headquarters, they entered the meeting with the advisors representing the National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges (Jufed), the Mexican Association of Female Judges and the Mexican Association of Female Judges and Magistrates, as well as the leader of the General Union of PJF Workers, Gilberto González Pimentel; the leaders of the National Union for Renewal in the Service of PJF Workers; the College of Secretaries and Clerks of the Federal Judiciary, and the spokesperson for the PJF workers, Patricia Aguayo.

The emissaries’ demands bore fruit: first they succeeded in getting the councillors to hold an extraordinary plenary session and to reverse their agreement to restart work next Monday.

Then, unanimously, the seven members of the CJF agreed to set up negotiating tables where they will analyze the granting of positions to those who currently work for fees, and also the possibility of maintaining the working conditions and salaries they enjoy, once the reform to the PJF is implemented.

Patricia Aguayo said that during the working table, Thanks to the sensitivity of Minister Norma Piña and all the advisors (…), from this date onwards all the issues that concern us will be analyzed, including those of the challenges to the labor reform and the probable start of the implementation with its appropriate times, but always first giving priority to the issues of the challenges that will be carried out both at national and international levels..

The first to celebrate with the workers who were at the rally in front of the CJF was Judge Juana Fuentes Velázquez, leader of the Jufed: we got ourselves heard!he said. The response was unanimous: We triumphedthe Judiciary agreed to maintain the suspension of activities until October 2, when it will be reviewed again to see if there are conditions to work.

However, when González Pimentel tried to give a message, the workers began throwing eggs at him and shouting that he did not represent them and that he should resign from his position.
