Workers at Port of Tripoli Protest Against General Security Decisions

“Lebanon Debate”

On Tuesday morning, a number of workers at the port of Tripoli blocked the road at the main entrance to the port in protest against some decisions taken by the administration.

In the details explained by the port director, Dr. Ahmed Tamer, to “Lebanon Debate”, “these decisions were taken by General Security, which had previously exempted 500 workers in the port from the entry fee to its campus, and they are among the workers who enter the port on a daily basis, while the others must Pay the “Persons Entry Fee”.

He added, “General Security also imposed fees on all cars entering the port, whether they were for workers, merchants, or others. Workers can enter on foot and therefore no fees are imposed on them.”

He pointed out that “a large number of workers’ cars and bicycles have legal violations. Some of them have not paid the mechanic fees, or their vehicles do not have license plates, so they must settle their conditions and pay the fees if they want to bring them into the Haram.”

In conclusion, Tamer stressed that “General Security is carrying out its duties, and the port administration stands by these measures because they are in the public interest.”
