Workers Allegedly KFC ‘Reply’ to the THR Demo Action with the Independent PCR Test

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Solidaritas Perjuangan Buruh Indonesia (SPBI) of PT Fast Food Indonesia Tbk, a franchise holder KFC in Indonesia, suspected that the company was taking “retaliatory” action against laborer who held a demonstration on Monday (12/4).

SPBI Coordinator Antony Matondang said the management sent a letter requiring workers to take a PCR test before returning to work, no later than Thursday (15/4).

He considered the policy as retaliation because previously there was an association of hundreds of members of the Indonesian Fast Food Workers Union (SPFFI) last March. However, Antony continued, they were not obliged to carry out the PCR swab test.

“This is a comparison that we say retaliatory measures from the company,” he told CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (14/4).

He also said management did not allow testing swab cheaper antigen even though workers do not experience covid-19 symptoms.

This policy, he said, was burdensome for workers who since last year received a 30 percent reduction in basic wages. He said the full salary would only be paid starting April 2021 after the demonstration took place.

“If it is preventive, it should be antigen first, see whether it is reactive or not, if it is reactive then it will go up to the PCR test. If there are no symptoms but are forced to do so, there is an indication (response) to it,” he explained.

He considered that health should be the responsibility of the company, including employee health tests. Unfortunately, the fee is charged to the wallet of each worker.

“Until April 15, 2021, the employee will not be able to show results swab PCR is negative (original), then the company will apply the provisions as applicable and regulated in the collective labor agreement, “as quoted from the memo received by the editor.

On the other hand, he said that the company has complied with the demands of full working hours and normal wages as of this month.

Apart from that, he said that the unclear demand for workers’ THR was the issue. The demand is that the THR is paid in full this year, not in installments like last year.

CNNIndonesia.com has contacted the Director of PT Fast Food Indonesia Tbk Justinus Dalimin Juwono to confirm this. However, until the news was broadcast, the person concerned had not yet responded.
