A semiconductor factory construction site in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do.

On the 14th of last month, an employee of a second subcontractor working here, Mr. Lee, in his 20s, fell from the 8th floor.

Mr. Lee was tasked with climbing a crane to a height of over 20 meters and removing the green safety net.

A safety rope was hung on the iron pillar, but the crane Mr. Lee was riding moved further than the length of the rope and he fell out of the crane.

Mr. Lee suffered serious injuries that left him paralyzed when he crashed into a steel structure while hanging on a rope.

Mr. Lee, who was in his third week at the company, claimed that it was his first high-altitude job and that he had not received proper training.

Mr. Lee says that although there was an emergency button inside the crane that allowed workers to stop the operation in case of emergency, no one explained that either.

The subcontractor and the main construction company that Mr. Lee worked for explained that they had conducted all legal safety training.

He added that the accident appears to have occurred because the safety rope was short, and that they are investigating whether training on work methods was appropriate.

Mr. Lee’s side announced that it would sue the relevant companies to the police on charges of violating the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
