Simon Bolivar. – Workers of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) reported death by heart attack by Isaias Mendez a 57-year-old worker, at the Tía Juana pier, on the Eastern Coast of the Lake. The event occurred on Sunday, August 20, and is the second death in 2023.
According to a report from the Comprehensive Security Directorate (DSI), to which he had access the whistle, the worker performed welding work on the Petroindependiente LL652 platform, on Lake Maracaibo, and suffered a heart attack. Méndez belonged to the Maintenance Department of this mixed company.
Through social networks, a video was released in which the worker’s colleagues are observed, when they carry it loaded on a stretcher and they walk to the PDVSA Industrial Clinic in Tía Juana, Simón Bolívar municipality, located 800 meters from the pier.

“What impotence, the ambulance does not appear. The man died and we take him here, this is what an oil tanker experiences,” says the person who recorded the video.
One of the workers, who preferred to reserve his identity, denounced that the operational areas of that dock Pdvsa The ambulance did not arrive and the group took him on a stretcher to the clinic.
“This is the risk for those of us who work in operational areas because there are no minimum security conditions to deal with these cases. We are in the good of God and there is no quality of life for the staff, ”he affirmed to The whistle.

In a PDVSA press release, published in 2006, the state company specifies that this platform in the LL652 field in Lake Maracaibo is operated by the mixed company Petroindependiente SA Chevron has 25.2% of the shares, together with the Venezuelan oil company.

In 2021, worker Sterlin Arteaga, 50, died at the Simón Bolívar dock in Ciudad Ojeda. Arteaga did his job without safety gear, boots or life jackets. According to the Fire Department report, he slipped when he was walking along the pier and drowned in Lake Maracaibo.
