Switzerland held the ball, but only reached a cross against Wales in Saturday’s first European Championship match. Wales’ equalizer was scored by Kieffer Moore – who made a different journey into the spotlight.
Wales’ offensive names such as Bale (Tottenham), James (Manchester United) and Ramsey (Juventus) are familiar to most people.
But in today’s European Championship premiere, Kieffer Moore also played at the top of the team. The tall striker has worked his way up in the English league system and during the past season scored full goals for Cardiff in the Championship.
And it was Moore who became the hero for Wales in the premiere match against Switzerland.
It was Switzerland who dominated the ball possession in the match, and received a dividend when Breel Embolo nodded in 1-0 at the beginning of the second half.
Lifeguard when Wales last barked
28-year-old Moore, who became a regular in the national team only last year, had a sharp nod chance already in the first half. With just over a quarter of an hour left in the match, Doldisen managed a new nod and equalized the match.
– An almost perfect hatching, Joe Morrell’s lifting has a perfect speed and Moore just needs to steer the ball past a chanceless Yann Sommer, commentator Jonas Lindholm said in the broadcast.
