Work permit card instead of Flexi Visa | Work permit card instead of flexible visa in Bahrain

Manama: The authorities have clarified the details of the new system that will be introduced in Bahrain in place of the Flexi Visa. Legally eligible expats will be issued a work permit card. Holders of this card can therefore work in Bahrain.

Labor Minister Jameel bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan, LMRA CEO Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer, and Bahrain Chamber Speaker Samir Naas announced at a press conference that suitable workers should register with the Job Registration Center.

Registration will be facilitated online and at the Job Registration Center. Full details of registered workers will be kept here. This is intended to collect comprehensive data on expatriate workers.

Newly introduced work permit card

Registered workers will be issued with a special work permit card. It will contain the photograph, occupation, name and CPR number of the worker. Registration and other procedures will begin shortly.

The LMRA had previously advised that those currently working on flexible visas and residing without sufficient documents should register with the Job Registration Center. The Labor Minister said the system is being implemented in a way that protects the rights of workers and employers. All professions will impose certain standards. Details will be released soon. This is meant to ensure that the best quality workers come to the country.

Bahrain Chamber Speaker Samir Naas said the business community has long called for the abolition of flexible visas. He added that the new system will provide equal opportunities for natives and non-residents. He also suggested that those who come to the country looking for work on a visit visa should leave the country and return if they find a job.

LMRA CEO Noof Abdul Rehman Jamsheer said the inspection to detect illegal workers has been strengthened. In recent days, in-depth inspections have been conducted in various parts of the country. Legal action, including deportation, will be taken against the captured persons.

The authorities are aiming for a radical reform of the country’s labor sector. Measures are being taken to create a better working environment by hiring only sufficiently skilled and efficient workers.
