Mexico City. The National Electoral Institute (INE) plans to begin work on the election of judges next Wednesday, at the same time as filing legal appeals before the Judiciary itself, in relation to the protections against the constitutional reform in this matter.
He also said that in the INE there is “sensitivity” to discuss the budget for holding these unprecedented elections.
“Prior to November 20, we have to carry out some legal activities that are the defense of all the resources that the Institute has received, and have enough calm so that all the Institute’s staff works under the umbrella or roof of legal tranquility. ”, commented the president advisor, Guadalupe Taddei.
At the same time, he defended the INE’s draft budget for this election (13,205 million pesos), as well as the bonus for all workers, under the argument that during election time all days are business days and they are available “24/7 ”. In that sense he offered and asked for sensitivity.
“We will be very sensitive to what they propose and we ask for exactly the same thing; “the sensitivity of the Institute’s approach to the cost of the electoral process in this case.”
In the same way, he expressed his complete willingness to analyze with the deputies each of the issues related to these extraordinary elections.
For now, he pointed out that it would be irresponsible to give any downward figure or adjustment, after President Claudia Sheinbaum has insisted that the budgeted amount is excessive.
He told the press the importance of defining how many polling stations will be installed on June 1 of next year, as well as the number of ballots to be printed, in addition to their characteristics, to name a few elements.
That is, if there will be 170 thousand voting tables as in the election on June 2 or if “territory concentration centers” are chosen, several electoral sections in the same place.
He also stressed that the institutional channel for this dialogue, proposed by the president of the Chamber of Deputies and representative of Morena before the INE, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, is the Legislative Branch itself, not the Executive.
-Would you request a meeting with President Sheinbaum?
-No, I believe that we have a very defined channel and it is the channel that has to do with the Congress of the Union; There is a good willingness to listen to the Institute, as far as we have been able to see, and we have the same willingness to listen to their proposals and I hope that it will be a two-way commitment, and produce the best product of what they are looking for and what that we need. “That is the institutional path that must be followed, it is not the presidency of the Republic, it is the Congress of the Union.”
For now, in a press conference, he said that “the 20th is the day that we have an agreement on the limit to restart the work of the electoral process; I think we would be in a position to say this is the last day or not.”
In parallel, the efforts will continue with the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, the Council of the Federal Judiciary and the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation itself.
Regarding the requested budget, he recalled that this has a “precautionary” nature, the same as the 13,205 million for the judicial election, as well as a little more than 4 billion to carry out a popular consultation that, if applicable, is requested from the Chamber of Deputies ( no later than the end of this month).
