Work exceeding one million euros starts in summer in Castelo de Paiva

As part of the ongoing urban regeneration in the village of Castelo de Paiva, this Thursday, the requalification project of Largo do Conde and Praça da Independência is presented. The investment is over one million euros, supported by 85% by community funds. The work is expected to start in the summer and take about a year to be completed.

The goal is, explains the Mayor, to modernize and invest in the mobility and security of that emblematic space of the county seat, preserving its history and identity. “This intervention is part of the urban regeneration that covers other streets in the village, in a global package of three million euros that can only be used for that purpose. The last intervention in Largo do Conde was more than 40 years ago and we could not waste this opportunity “, defends Gonçalo Rocha. “We will have a single square to the church,” he says.

The project involves changes in traffic, with the street in front of the town hall, banking institutions and the post office becoming pedestrian. There will also be time limitations on parking. Pedestrian and cycling mobility will be promoted, as well as unevenness and steps being eliminated, making the space a continuous square. The emblematic elements, the statue of the Count of Castelo de Paiva and Cruzeiro remain, emerging new, dedicated to music: a saxophone and a cello with a sound system and with permanent music. Part of the existing trees (and new ones) and garden spaces in the center of the square will also be maintained. In terms of materials the bet will be on granite and shale.
