Work conditions: Foberd-Gabon soon to be under sanctions?

An unannounced inspection mission from the Ministry of Labor yesterday visited eight companies of the Foberd-Gabon group, to check the working conditions of the employees of these companies.

A visit that comes after what this group got a few months ago.

The visit resulted in letters of observation to the companies. ” And it is right that after the first visit, when letters of recommendation are made, we go back to find out if these ideas have been implemented.explained the regional director of Labor and Pool Personnel, Chantal Mindala Momomba.

Of the companies visited, none implemented the labor inspectors’ comments. A situation which the Labor DP deplores.

In fact, research done in the field reveals an unavoidable work environment.

So the sensitivity of the workers who work there was noticed. “The best-paid Gabonese here is 200 thousand francs a month,” an agent from the Sofavin company told us cautiously.

Who asked to remain anonymous, for fear of reprisal. Later at Sogamatec, a woman tells us that the employees of this entity receive 5 thousand francs per day.

The worst rate is in Gabon’s environmental service (GES), where the people who work in sorting plastics receive 100 francs per kilo.

“And we harvest 3 to 4 kg per day, in inhumane conditions,” laments a young woman. All without protective equipment.

The most surprising thing is that these people are under the label of a subcontractor who, in reality, a source on the site tells us, belonged to the same group.

“We cannot mistreat people like this in their own country”the thunder of the Labor DP, ensuring that measures would be taken very quickly, according to the Labor Code.
