Getafe
The City Council of Getafe has already begun work to repopulate with different natural species four plots, now empty, in the neighborhood of Pear Trees of the River. An action that seeks to improve the environmental quality of the area and respond, at the same time, to neighborhood requests made through participatory budgets.
Action will be taken on four plots where an automated irrigation network will be installed, “taking into account water and energy savings” to achieve greater efficiency and reduce maintenance costs, as reported by the City Council in a note.
Shade trees and ornamental shrubs will also be planted, lawn meadows will be created and mulched to fertilize the garden. An initiative that seeks to continue improving the neighborhood, creating new green spaces for neighborhood enjoyment, according to the Councilor for Maintenance, Maite Mellado. In fact, the public company for Cleaning and Environment, LYMA, is going to start similar work in the next few days in the Manzanares riverbed, for its environmental recovery, which will mean the start of the Getafe Rio project.
In this case, the start will be the cleaning and waste collection, in addition to cleaning sewer manholes. Afterwards, the species considered exotic will be eliminated to favor the growth of those native to the area. According to municipal sources, once the work has begun, LYMA will carry out a fun family awareness activity and in October the planting of more than 24,000 trees and shrubs will begin.
