Work accident in Sainte-Foy: fatal fall for a forty-something

A 46-year-old man who was doing masonry work succumbed to his injuries after falling more than five meters on Wednesday in the Sainte-Foy area of ​​Quebec.

A little after 4 p.m., the emergency services were called to go to a lot near 2150, rue Mackay.

According to what the CNESST was able to observe on site, the accident occurred while two workers were carrying out masonry work on scaffolding.

A plank would have broken or shifted and the two men fell from an estimated height of 18 feet.

The Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) initially only spoke of an individual seriously injured as a result of the accident.

This seriously injured man was transported to a hospital center. His condition was considered unstable during transport. Police finally confirmed his death on Thursday.

As for the second worker, neither the CNESST nor the SPVQ were able to give details of his state of health.

The two men worked for the company Maçonnerie Michel Gosselin, according to the CNESST.

The organization said it would conduct an investigation to determine more precisely the causes and circumstances of the tragedy. A report and recommendations will eventually be tabled.

For their part, the police indicated that there seemed to be no element of a criminal nature in this file.

Falls, in the construction industry, are a major cause of injuries every year in Quebec.

In 2018, 711 falls causing injuries were reported in this area. Of these, 13 had resulted in the death of a worker.
