(Los Angeles = Yonhap News) Correspondent Mi-Na Lim = The word processor ‘WordPad’, which was basically included in Microsoft’s Windows operating system, has disappeared into history in 28 years.

According to a notice on Microsoft’s website on the 3rd (local time), WordPad will no longer be updated and will be removed from future products.

MS said, “It is recommended to use ‘MS Word’ for formatted text documents such as ‘.doc’ and ‘.rtf’, and Windows Notepad for plain text documents such as ‘.txt’.”

This means that you should use Notepad when writing simple texts, and use ‘MS Word’ when writing formal documents.

MS has provided WordPad as a standard feature since Windows 95, which was released in 1995. However, starting in 2020, it was classified as an optional feature and users could delete it if they wanted.

Microsoft did not reveal the exact reason for removing WordPad this time, but foreign media pointed out that it may be because the usefulness of this function has recently decreased.

MS has recently announced that it will upgrade the Notepad program by adding features such as ‘auto-save’. Instead of getting rid of Word Pad, which is not widely used, it is interpreted as an intention to improve the function of Notepad and induce the purchase of a paid word program for document work.
