77 performances of which 38 previously unreleased will comprise the discs
To mark the 40th anniversary of the first Woodstock festival, a 6-CD collection will be released with a total of 77 tracks, arranged in chronological order of performance, including 38 previously unreleased recordings featuring artists such as the Greatful Dead, The Who, Tim Hardin, Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe & The Fish and more.
To compile the most significant events surrounding the legendary weekend, Woodstock 40 co-producer Andy Zax combed through every inch of tape, looking for the strongest moments of each of the 33 concerts. “The way we approached each material was as if we were making a cinèma vèritè-style documentary” (the raw footage of the event), says Zax. In addition to the music, the set includes a significant amount of miscellaneous documentary material included on the discs.
Another significant added bonus to Woodstock 40 is that, based on the size and strict chronological order of the collection, it comes closest to the emotion of the performances of any compilation to date. For the first time, complete and accurate concert listings will be available in the booklet included with the box set. Some Woodstock fans will be surprised by the actual sequence of performances; it differs both from the various written accounts and from Michael Wadleigh’s film Woodstock, which takes liberties chronologically in order to maintain a narrative approach.
In addition to the box set, Warner will also re-release the now-long-out-of-print Music From The Original Soundtrack And More: Woodstock and Woodstock Two on June 2nd – coinciding with Warner Home Video’s re-release of the documentary Woodstock. Originally released in 1970. Music From The Original Soundtrack And More: Woodstock tops Billboard’s pop album chart for four weeks and is also in the top 20 for R&B album.
Woodstock 40 is on the Bulgarian music market by Orfey Music, an exclusive licensee of Warner Music International.
