Borussia Dortmund earns three points at TSG Hoffenheim. After the 3: 2 Marco Reus praised the efficiency, Manuel Akanji called for more consistency. The voices of the game.
Borussia Dortmund secured three points against TSG Hoffenheim with a lot of work, high efficiency and luck. BVB’s 3-2 victory started with a beautifully played goal by Erling Haaland (6th minute) – the Norwegian had to be replaced injured in the second round. Hoffenheim then acted in a superior manner and scored a well-deserved equalizer through Andrej Kramaric (45′). But BVB impresses with merciless effectiveness. First Marco Reus made it 2-1 (58th), then Donyell Malen, who prepared all the goals, forced David Raum to score an own goal. Georginio Rutter shortened (77th), but BVB took the narrow lead over time. The votes for the game:
This is what the BVB players say about the victory at TSG Hoffenheim:
Marco Reus (BVB player): “We got on really well, but then became too passive and didn’t put enough pressure on it. It got better in the second half after switching to a five-man formation because we played more man-to-man. But of course it was a victory for effectiveness and we are happy that we won this difficult game.”
Manuel Akanji (BVB player): “How many teams consistently deliver on the track? I think there is only one team and that has been champion for many years. Of course we try, but we have a lot of games where we play well and then not so well. We have to manage that we don’t concede goals so easily even on days that aren’t so good and play as a team. We discussed that with each other and it won’t happen overnight – but today was a good step.”
Marco Rose (BVB-Trainer): “It was a very intense game. We came in very well and scored a very nice goal. Then Hoffenheim got stronger and stronger. We were forced to close the spaces even though we wanted to defend forward. This meant a lot of work for the chain. We then had big problems, the equalizer was deserved. We adjusted a few things during the break, but quickly realized that the problems were still there. The change did us good. Hoffenheim didn’t get into the rooms like that anymore. In the end, it’s a flattering win for us, but my boys worked hard and some stats speak for us, too. We are happy to take the points with us.”
This is what Hoffenheim say about the 2: 3 against BVB:
Andrej Kramaric (Hoffenheim striker): “We’re not happy with the result, but the performance was really good. We were clearly the better team, I don’t even know how many shots we had and I wonder how we lost the game. But this is football. We have to build on that, then the results will come.”
Sebastian Hoeneß (Hoffenheim coach): “We can’t buy anything for praise. After 15 minutes it was only going in one direction, we hit the post and crossbar. We come out of the dressing room brutally – but miss making the goal. Dortmund scored the goals for 1: 2 and 1: 3 in the style of a top team.
