WONOGIRI – Dozens of leptospirosis cases occurred in Kota Sukses throughout 2021. One of them resulted in death.
Head of the Health Service (Dinkes) Wonogiri Setyarini through the Head of Disease Prevention and Control Satyawati Prawirohardjo said last year there were 11 cases of leptospirosis.
“Of the 11 cases, one of them died. According to our records, (the patient) is from Manyaran District and occurred in early March 2021,” he explained recently.
Leptospirosis in the City of Success, added Satyawati, not all of them are local cases. There are also imported cases, namely experienced by immigrants.
One example is the case of a resident of Pracimantoro sub-district who worked in the city of Solo and later became infected with leptospirosis there. When his condition worsened, the nomad returned to Wonogiri. After receiving medical treatment, his condition improved.
Cases of death due to leptospirosis are also recorded as imported cases. It is known that these residents work in Boyolali every day.
According to Satyawati, leptospirosis is a disease caused by bacteria or leptospira bacteria. Usually, people get leptospirosis because there are wounds on the body and then exposed to urine.
Therefore, people must be vigilant in the rainy season. Stagnant water contaminated with rat urine can carry leptospira bacteria.
Locations with stagnant water, such as rice fields are also prone to leptospira contamination. Therefore, farmers are at risk of being exposed to leptospirosis if they do not wear personal protective equipment, including shoes boot.
In addition to passing puddles, a person can be infected with leptospirosis through the gastrointestinal tract. “If you know that the house has a lot of rats, don’t leave food or cutlery open. It could be that food or cutlery is contaminated with rat urine,” said Satyawati.
Symptoms of patients with leptospirosis include fever, headache, muscle aches and digestive disorders. His specialty is skler (the white part of the eye) turns yellowish and the calf is painful. (al/wa/dam)
