The countdown has begun. One of the most anticipated films of 2023, Wonkaa new biopic dedicated to the famous chocolatier, will be released in cinemas in almost two months exactly, on December 13, 2023. On the bill, actor Timothée Chalamet, who will play the character invented by Road Dahl in 1964. A new strip -announcement has just revealed new images from the film.
A focus on Willy Wonka’s youth
Directed by Paul King (Paddington), Wonka stands out from the last film centered on the chocolatier, directed in 2005 by Tim Burton, and appears as a prequel devoted to the youth of the fictional character. Unveiled on October 12, 2023, the new trailer promises an enchanting and colorful film, made for the end-of-year holidays. It begins with a face-to-face between Willy Wonka, played by Timothée Chalamet, and an Oompa-Loompa with the features of Hugh Grant, hilarious in each of his appearances.
The young chocolatier also presents himself as a “magician”, particularly mischievous and ready to offer his treat to everyone, even the poor. In April 2023, during a conference held at CinemaCon in Las Vegas and bringing together the film team, Timothée Chalamet described his Willy Wonka as more joyful and optimistic, the opposite of the character’s last appearances.

A five-star cast
The Franco-American actor will be accompanied by a choice cast: Sally Hawkins, Olivia Coleman, Calah Lane, Matt Lucas, Calah Lane and Rowan Atkison. A hell of a challenge for Timothée Chalamet, whose career continues to take off since the success of Call Me By Your Namein 2017. The young actor will star in the next Bleu de Chanel ad directed by Martin Scorsese, as well as in Dune 2postponed to March 13, 2024 following the strike of American screenwriters.
Wonka will be the third film adaptation of the famous character of Road Dahl, to whom we also owe works like Sacred Witches or Matilda. The latest film adaptation, released in 2005 by Tim Burton, notably starring Freddie Highmore, grossed a total of more than $474,000 at the worldwide box office.
