Won Bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Anthony Ginting Gets a Unique Nickname from BWF : Okezone Sports

PEBULU Indonesian men’s singles badminton, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, attracted more attention from the public for appearing well on Tokyo 2020 Olympics. After successfully winning a bronze medal, Anthony Ginting was even given a unique nickname from the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

BWF dubbed the player born in Cimahi, West Java, ‘PikaTing’. This nickname emerged because of Anthony’s unique celebration after winning the bronze medal match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Facing the representative of Guatemala, Kevin Cordon, Anthony Ginting did indeed successfully appear stunning. The world number five player could even win the match in straight sets with a score of 21-11 and 21-13.

After winning the match which was held on Monday, August 2, 2021, at night WIB, Anthony celebrated by squatting while shouting loudly and clenching his hands. This photo is the origin of the nickname PikaTing.

The BWF uploaded the photo while editing it into a Pikachu character in the Pokemon cartoon. Anthony’s photo on the cheek is given a red circle. Not only that, BWF also added a Pikachu tail on the back of Anthony Ginting’s body.

Not to forget, there are a number of thin yellow lines while indicating the flow of electricity. This is indeed identical to the Pikachu character. Later, BWF merged the name Pikachu with Anthony Ginting into PikaTing.

“What will PikaTing do? Fighting for bronze,” wrote BWF in the upload.

This photo also seems to have attracted more attention from the general public. No doubt, there were a lot of comments and likes in the upload. Currently, there are already more than 13 thousand likes that affix the photo.

Anthony Ginting’s achievement of winning a bronze medal has indeed sweetened Indonesia’s achievements at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In total, Indonesia has won five medals, with details, 1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze.
