Women’s work on the rise in the European Union

Wage differentials with men, regularly denounced, are not enough to characterize the situation of women on the labor market. Other data, such as those communicated by the European Commission on the occasion of the international womens day make it possible to supplement or even qualify the reality of women at work in Europe.

The proportion of women who have a professional activity remains lower than that of men. Yet this share continues to grow. In 2020, the employment rate for women aged 20 to 64 was 66.6% against 78.3% for men, a difference of 11.7% points. Ten years ago it was 13.5 points.
