Women’s winning turn against Slovácko

29/09/2024, Editorial Board

Slávistky beat the ambitious Slovácko 2:1 on their home field in Horní Měcholupy and claim their fifth league win. Our soccer players had to catch up to the opponent’s one-goal lead, Klára Cvrčková arranged the equalizer, and Barbora Polcarová scored the winning goal with a header.

The players of Slavia did not start the match ideally, when already in the 7th minute they sent the visiting Slovácko and their coach Michaela Daněčková to lead the attacker Vojtková. Although Slávistka created several excellent opportunities, they were unable to convert them, so Slovácko maintained its narrow lead until the end of the first half.

In the second half, the performance of the staples improved significantly. Petra Divišová promptly took advantage of a mistake in Slovácko’s pass, who found Klára Cvrčková in front of the goal with a precise pass, and in the 54th minute she finished with a clear shot into the open goal and leveled the match. The decisive moment of the match came in the 75th minute, when Barbora Polcarová climbed into the air after Kateřina Svitková’s corner kick and secured our women’s fifth league victory with a precise header.

“We fell asleep in the first half, when Slovácko beat us three times in ten minutes at the beginning of the match. We couldn’t close the space well in those situations, we conceded from one chance, then Slovácko closed it down and it was very uncomfortable defensively. During the break, we talked about what we could improve, and I think the girls did it. In the second half, we clearly dominated and except for one standard situation at the end of the match, we didn’t let Slovácko have any major chances. I have to thank the players for how they managed to turn around such a difficult match,” coach Jiří Vágner evaluated the match.

“I think that the victory over Slovácko will help us mainly from a psychological point of view. Our game is not yet what we would like it to be, but to set ourselves up for the derby with such a victory is certainly positive. I’m really looking forward to the derby, now I’m fighting for the red and white colors and I’ll do everything for the team’s victory,” Barbora Polcarová, the scorer of the winning goal, said after the match.

The Prague derby is here! Another exciting match awaits our women on Saturday, October 5 from 11:00 a.m. at the Prosek Stadium. Come cheer, fans.
