What is the mood among women 50 years after the introduction of women’s suffrage in Switzerland? To answer that, the “Annajetzt” study asked over 6000 women how satisfied they are with their professional and private situation. Some of the answers are sobering.

Especially in the world of work, a majority of those questioned have a gender equality deficit, as stated in the survey published on Monday by the polling institute Sotomo and the magazine “Annabelle”. Around 60 percent feel that equality in the world of work has not been achieved.

The survey also showed that a little less than half of women earn enough to earn a living on their own. It is said that this mainly affects part-time workers and mothers.

Only every second working woman rated her employer as family-friendly in the survey. In addition, 61 percent see the employer as having an obligation to ensure that work can be better reconciled with family life.

Overriding opinion: men have more advantages

Overall, younger women between the ages of 25 and 34 assess the status of equality in the world of work more critically than older survey participants. On one point, however, the women across the generations agree: almost three quarters are of the opinion that men in this country have more advantages overall. Even in an international comparison, this is a very high proportion, write the authors of the study.

The most important political demand is for equal pay for equal work, which 85 percent of the respondents share. Opinions on gender quotas are divided. While 48 percent are in favor of this, 52 percent are against it.

Women with preschoolers want more sex

On the whole, according to the “Annajetzt” study, German-speaking Swiss women are satisfied with their lives. Satisfaction varies depending on the family and household situation. It is noticeable, for example, that mothers in a family household are less satisfied with their leisure time (50 percent) and professional career (57 percent) than the average (67 percent in both categories).

According to the survey results, satisfaction with one’s own sex life also depends on various factors. For example, from the age of 35, the number of women for whom sex is not so important increases. For younger respondents, however, not only is sex more important, a lot more of them also say that they wanted more sex.

The survey also states that the child situation also plays an important role in sexuality. For example, women with children of preschool age are more likely to find that they have too little sex (41 percent). They are also less likely to be fully satisfied with their sex life (26 percent).
