Women’s strike. Small towns are protesting

In the slightly larger city of Oświęcim (a city of about 40,000 inhabitants), there was also a crowd of protesters on Wednesday evening.

A protest of several hundred people was also held in Łańcut (Podkarpackie Province, approx. 18,000 inhabitants). This is one of the so-called PiS bastions. In the parliamentary elections in 2019, Law and Justice received nearly 55 percent of the vote here. all voices. Despite this, the inhabitants of this town are very critical of the ruling camp after the Constitutional Court’s decision on abortion.

Protesters also gathered at John Paul II Square in Wadowice (Małopolskie Voivodeship, less than 20,000 inhabitants). According to the local media, “defenders of the church” stood in front of the basilica, but there were no tensions. The protesters marched through the streets of the city and didn’t even come close to the churches.

Another small town in which PiS definitely won in the parliamentary elections in 2019 (it received 59 percent of support here) is Limanowa in the province. Lesser Poland.

The Constitutional Tribunal heard the case as a full bench. The chairman of the adjudicating bench was the president of the Constitutional Tribunal, Julia Przyłębska, and the rapporteur – Judge Justyn Piskorski. Dissenting opinions were submitted by judges Piotr Pszczółkowski and Leon Kieres.

After the decision of the Constitutional Tribunal, protests against the tightening of the abortion law began across Poland.
