Women’s Mental Health and Early Detection of Breast Cancer: Helwan University hosts awareness symposium

Today, Monday, Helwan University, headed by Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of the University, organized an awareness symposium entitled Women’s Mental Health and the Importance of Early Detection of Breast Cancer in cooperation with the Cairo Branch of the National Council for Women, under the patronage of Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the Council, and supervised by Maha Marwan, Rapporteur of the Cairo Branch, at the Faculty of Law at Helwan University. Under the leadership of Dr. Amal Lotfy, Dean of the College, Member of the National Council for Women in Cairo, and Coordinator of the Symposium, within the framework of the activities of the Thirteenth Egyptian Universities and Institutes Youth Week held at Helwan University.

The symposium was opened by Dr. Amal Lutfi, welcoming the attendees, members of the Cairo branch, and the Baheya Hospital staff

She spoke about the importance of holding such seminars for women to raise psychological and health awareness, stressing the importance of such seminars in educating young people about the importance of women’s health, which is the pillar of the Egyptian family and society, adding that the importance of the symposium lies because of the spread of the disease and the lack of sufficient knowledge about it, and that prevention is better than cure.

Fadia Fathi, the symposium coordinator, explained the role of the National Council for Women and introduced its competencies. She explained the services provided by the hotline 15115 to the Women’s Complaints Office, as well as the activity of the Cairo branch in all areas related to women and in all neighborhoods in Cairo, in order to raise awareness, train, support and protect them.

Nourhan Hani, public relations specialist at Bahia Hospital, introduced the establishment of the hospital, its history, the departments in it, how to make reservations, and the services that the hospital provides for free through the hospital’s hotline 16602.

Dr. Shaima Hilal, a general surgery specialist at Bahia Hospital, introduced the disease, methods of protection, risk factors, how to self-examination at home, its importance, and the necessity of annual examination to check on each different age stage. Members of the Cairo branch, Fayza Hassabo, Omaima Ahmed, and Regan Al-Attar participated in attendance.
