We won’t blame the spectators who arrived late at the Quai de l’Adour this Saturday evening. In the end, they were lucid and didn’t make much mistakes because the first quarter of the game was poor. For 10 minutes the two teams searched, in vain, for the right address to get the match off the ground. It was a bit painful at first but the TGB, led by a well-executed Marie Pardon, ended up activating the GPS to arrive safely.
Without Isabelle Yacoubou, caught and kept warm, Tarbes had some difficulty starting the racket, the rebound sector continues to fail. From there she suffered a lot, not really even if the UFAB, which showed up in Bigorre without its rookie of the week Adaora Elonu, was less bad at shooting to run shyly ahead (9-12, 1st quarter) .
Between two teams with the same record of two wins and four losses having faced exactly the same teams, this game was a bit like the culmination of the second half of the championship. In both Tarbes and Angers, the priority is to get four behind to avoid the play-downs. And this, the TGB seems to have understood better before the Christmas break.
Maria Pardon as patroness
Because from then on Tarbes had a nice evening, without any nuisances. And its international captaincy was no stranger. We know Marie Pardon capable of a huge volume of play on both sides of the field. And when she the latter brings it all together by stringing the baskets like pearls, she becomes unstoppable. The FOAB has experienced this since the second quarter (36-28, MT). But reducing Tarbes’ victory to a single individual case would be very unfair to this collective work of François Gomez’s players. The danger came from all sides (Foppossi, Ewodo, Tadic) when the Angevins, like Alexis Peterson or Kekelly Elenga, multiplied the ball losses. So that no one in the room could doubt the outcome of the evening as the final siren approaches (64-45, 35th). Without a doubt three games in six days were too much for Aurélie Bonnan’s girls even if they didn’t have to force their talent too much on Wednesday in the Eurocup against the Croatian side of Ragusa (90-42).
After falling against the big names in the league (Lattes-Montpellier, Bourges, Lyon-Asvel and Basket Landes), TGB continues its impeccable performance against the teams, a priori, of its league which obviously includes Angers which, we must not miss out to finish 2022 well. Contract completed for Tarbes after a perfectly mastered match.
REACTIONS:
Marie Pardon, leader of the TGB: “It’s nice to find victory and Quai at the same time, there were certainly fewer people than usual, but we felt the support of the fans despite everything. In terms of basketball, as soon as we’re together on defense, that we set the pace on offense, not much can happen to us. The +12 score doesn’t really reflect the difference because we ended up doing a lot of rotations. But personally I am happy to give the “young” the opportunity to express themselves. I was in this position not too long ago and I was very happy to have a few seconds.”
François Gomez, TGB coach: “I’m sorry there wasn’t a 20-point difference at the finish, but we have to reward our young people, they work hard and it’s our culture here in Tarbes. We had a tiring start to the game, without rhythm, without aggression. Then we could count on an exceptional Marie Pardon who muzzled Peterson well while being very effective in attack. Without Isa (Yacoubou), it’s really a good game, we will spend the holidays in the heat. Instead we have a real problem with rebounds. We are very weak in the sector, and it is a problem of concentration and combativeness. We really have to work on this.”
