– Women’s football, “Barbie” and “Star Wars”
Today, budding footballers also benefit from female role models to inspire them and dream big. The World Cup shines a light on stars who don’t just shine on the pitch.

Twenty years ago, the hit film “Play it like Beckham” told the story of an English teenage football fan in the suburbs of London, forced to play behind her parents’ backs to follow in the footsteps of his favorite player. She was inspired by the handsome and talented David Beckham, failing to be able to idolize a footballer.
Fortunately, this scenario is no longer relevant. The World Cup is in full swing in Oceania and women’s football has moved on to another cinematic register. “Star Wars” and the new feminist “Barbie” are notably on the bill.
Ada Hegerberg, Megan Rapinoe and Alexia Putellas (to name just three) are all strong and inspiring women for the little girls and little boys of 2023. The star players have benefited from the development of the discipline, social networks and massive investments by brands to make a name for themselves. They are also entitled to their Golden Ball, the greatest individual award in football, for five years.
Models to follow and not only for their technical prowess. While the majority of their male colleagues shine especially on the pitch, they are often committed citizens who are determined to build a more just and egalitarian society.
The Swiss Alisha Lehmann is no exception, despite her supermodel poses pushing the bling-bling to the stage seated in a racing car. Appearances are deceiving for the one who has 14.3 million followers, more than Roger Federer. The 24-year-old player is also one of the figures of a prevention campaign against online harassment, launched by the European Football Union. Play it like Lehmann.
