Women’s Eurocup: Lyon and Villeneuve d’Ascq towards the semi-finals

Lyon and Villeneuve d’Ascq, respectively winners of Angers (88-58) and Zaragoza (84-68) are on track to reach the semi-finals of the Eurocup where the two French teams would then face off.

A blistering 18-2 start to the second quarter proved to be the perfect launch pad for ASVEL. Gabby Williams was the top scorer with 18 points, while Marine Johannes added 13 points and 5 assists and Alexia Chartereau 12 points and 8 rebounds.

“Of course there is the quality of the game offered by Lyon, it is undeniable, we do not play in the same court today. Except that we are able to do it in the league here, we are able to do it in 2-3 quarters overall, but we get annoyed too quickly. We don’t agree on an action and we stop playing, but no, we have to continue, “ commented the Angevin coach Aurélie Bonnan to the Courrier de l’Ouest.

Villeneuve d’Ascq had done most of the work at halftime against Zaragoza (45-26) with Kamiah Smalls who in the match came close to a triple-double with 21 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds, while Kariata Diaby wrapped up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
