Berlin – The two-time title holder VfL Wolfsburg trembled in the newly introduced group stage of the women’s football Champions League.
The German cup winners only prevailed 3-0 on penalties in their second-round second leg at Girondins Bordeaux. After extra time it was 2: 3, after regular time it was 1: 2 from VfL’s point of view. The Bundesliga club won the first game in Wolfsburg last week 3-2.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim had to shake less. After the clear 3: 0 in the first leg, he handed coach Gabor Gallai’s team in the playoff second leg against the Swedish record champions FC Rosengard a 3: 3 (2: 1).
In Bordeaux, national goalkeeper Almuth Schult saved two penalties for the French on her comeback after a calf injury lasting several weeks. Striker Ewa Pajor brought the favorites in France into the lead in the 25th minute and scored in extra time to make it 2-2 (102nd). The Dutch Katja Snoeijs took advantage of a serious mistake by the Wolfsburg defense to make it 1-1 (36th) in the first half. Melissa Gomes (67th) and Mickaella Cardia (119th) then saved Girondins first in extra time and shortly before the end also in the penalty shoot-out.
The goals for Hoffenheim in the Dietmar Hopp Stadium were scored by Lara Wienroither (8th minute), Sarai Linder (27th) and Jule Brand (67th). For the Swedes, Jelena Cankovic (37th), Mimmi Larsson (17th) and Loreta Kullashi (89th) met.
In addition to Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim, champions FC Bayern Munich are set for the group stage of the premier class.
