Status: 10.12.2022 15:59

Bayern Munich’s women winter in the Bundesliga in second place behind defending champions VfL Wolfsburg. The team coached by Alexander Straus defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 (1-0) on matchday ten and remains the first pursuer of VfL with a 25-point lead over Eintracht Frankfurt (23).

Georgia Stanway (30th) and Sydney Lohmann (62nd) met in front of 1950 fans in the Munich snowstorm. Three days after their Champions League coup against FC Barcelona (3-1), the hosts struggled against the sixth-placed team (12 points). Double winner Wolfsburg (27) face newly promoted SV Meppen only on Sunday and are aiming for a year of perfect competitive matches at domestic level against Tommy Stroot’s former club.

Things are looking bad for Turbine Potsdem

Meanwhile, the danger of relegation increases for Turbine Potsdam. Coach Sven Weigang’s team lost 0:3 (0:2) at Eintracht Frankfurt and suffered their tenth consecutive defeat in front of 2,584 spectators in the Brentano-Bad stadium.

Potsdam go into the start of the winter break with just one point as bottom of the table in the women’s Bundesliga. On 5 February, Turbine welcomes FC Bayern Munich at the end of the first half of the season.

It took the superior women of Frankfurt half an hour to break through the defense of Potsdam. After a quick combination on the right wing, Tanja Pawollek (31′) took the ball and gave Anna Wellmann no chance in the Potsdam goal with a lively low shot from 17 metres.

Potsdam without offensive power

The 2-0 lead just before the half-time whistle after a neat cross from former Potsdam player Lara Prasnikar (42nd) was well deserved. In the first 45 minutes, Turbine had almost no dangerous offensive action, but showed excellent morale in defense.

The best goal of the night went to Frankfurt’s Sara Doorsoun-Khajeh (49th), who volleyed under the crossbar from 15 metres.

The Lucky Turbines were lucky six minutes later when Prasnikar hit the post into the empty goal. Given the overwhelming superiority of the hosts, the defeat in Potsdam was more or less bearable.
