Women’s basketball Euroleague: Sopron advances with a heavy defeat

Sopron Basket LOST 31 POINTS in its last group match as a guest of Beretta Famila Schio, finishing fourth in Group B of the Euroleague. Our compatriots played a subordinate role on Wednesday night, which is very sad because this match was vital not only for the Italians, but also for us. Dávid Gáspár’s team can only thank for their advancement to the fact that Perfumerías Avenida Salamanca won against Spar Girona at the Spanish home match.

Two defeats can clearly hurt the green and yellows: last week’s, when the French Landes took the two points completely unexpectedly from the Novomatic Arena, and the away defeat against DVTK, when Sopron horribly messed up the final game. In this season, only the Serbian-Hungarian high thrower, Jelena Brooks, provides a balanced and truly classy performance, the others’ product is either wavering or rather falls short of expectations. Although Határ Bernadett has returned from a long knee injury, he is not yet in a condition to build on it, he only got a good two and a half minutes against Schio.

In the quarter-finals, the pairing of last year’s final will be repeated, with the Turkish Fenerbahce clashing with the defending champion of the Euroleague with home field advantage. In its current state, Sopron Basket has almost no chance of reaching the final four, but if we think about the recent miracle in Istanbul, we could even imagine that anything is possible. However, Fener is much more solid than what we saw last season, but the same cannot be said for Sopron, in fact…

The first leg will be held on March 14 in Istanbul, three days later the sides will meet in the most loyal city, if the same team does not win these two meetings, the third battle will take place again in Turkey on March 22.

MASTER SCALE
David Gáspár:
– It is difficult to talk about this match. One thing we can do now is admit that Schio has outgrown us in every aspect of the game. We will not fall apart, we definitely want to play much better in the next Euroleague matches, and we have significant goals in the Hungarian championship as well. Everyone in the team looks in the mirror and thinks about what else they can do for the community, work, and our profession, and we move forward with this spirit. We would like to thank the fans at home and those who traveled all the way and supported us.

DVTK-Hun-Therm’s last Euroleague match of the season HAD ONE STAKE: will the Borsod club manage to finish its first main-table appearance in the elite with a fifty percent record?

Since the visitors scored six points after one minute and one second in the second half at the home of the French Basket Landes, and thus went 34-26 in the low-scoring match, it was possible to trust that we could answer the question posed above with a yes. According to local custom, a great brass band provided the support in Mont de Marsan, and the people in the stands soon had reason to rejoice, because the host took the lead by producing a series of ten to zero, and Péter Völgyi asked for time after a basket by the forty-year-old control legend, Céline Dumerc.

By the end of the fourth quarter, our team had lost a seven-point deficit, but this difference was restored in just three minutes by Landes, which after Sopron Basket also played with DVTK – Réka Bernáth, who finished the meeting with 17 points, and his colleagues finished sixth in the B -group, and overall they performed very decently, but in addition to their six victories, they finally said goodbye with eight defeats.

MASTER SCALE
Peter Völgyi:
– The third quarter was the decisive one, we hurried our attacks even with the advantage, and our defense became imprecise. We played an important and valuable match because it highlighted our mistakes that we need to correct. The first EuroLeague season remains a very good memory, unfortunately at the end we were crushed by the speed and dynamics that awaited us in this competition series. From here on, we can focus on Hungarian challenges.
