Women who remain in prison will face new proceedings for other crimes – Publinews – 2024-03-03 00:33:59

Investigators from the National Division against the Criminal Development of Gangs (Dipanda) of the National Civil Police (PNC) of Guatemala carried out an investigation at the Rehabilitation Center for Men and Women of Puerto Barrios, in the department of Izabal, in which They notified new arrest warrants for different crimes for two inmates.

The first is Mónica Yaneth Cu, 36 years old, who was notified that she must go to a court in Guatemala, accused of the crime of extortion on an ongoing basis. She was arrested on September 2, 2015 in San Pedro Ayampuc, municipality of Guatemala, she and 11 other people were arrested for being alleged members of Mara 18.

Those involved are accused of crimes of murder, attempted murder, intimidation, extortionate obstruction of traffic and illicit association.

Meanwhile, Mabelin Esperanza Soto López, 36 years old, was charged by a court in Quetzaltenango with the crime of illegal carrying of firearms for civilian and/or sporting use.

Soto López reflects two admissions to different prisons: On February 28, 2019, she was detained in the La Alameda 3 neighborhood, in zone 18, along with another woman. That day she was illegally carrying a firearm. And on October 2 of that same year she was detained in the Paraíso 2 neighborhood, in zone 18, in compliance with an order issued by the High Risk Court A, for the crime of illicit association.
