For the same cause, different effects. Of all the pricks supplied in Spain, up to 24,500 side effects have been reported so far after injecting the vaccine. But they do not affect men and women equally.
Of all of them, 19,141 of these side effects have been suffered by women. Men, 4,943. Many of them are common and shared in both sexes -fever, headache, muscle pain-, but many others, no.
We talk about, for example, changes in the menstrual cycle or enlargement of the breasts. These are not covered at the moment by the technical data sheet of the vaccine, but with the expansion of the sera they are becoming more and more common.
Only 4% of research takes gender into account
Why? Doctors explain it: we still do not know how these mild side effects can affect men and women, because only 4% of research related to injections have taken into account the sex of their participants.
And that even having simple explanations. For example, in the case of breast growth: the injection of the vaccine itself causes the lymph nodes in the armpit to swell and, therefore, the area drains worse. The hormonal alteration suffered that so many citizens have reported may also influence.
However, experts warn: women tend to trivialize their own symptoms, when they are also necessary for the proper advancement of science. Women can suffer specific symptoms derived from vaccines, and without their notification, the study of whether it is a direct effect can be difficult.
