‘Women suffer more from the corona crisis than men’ • Record number of infections in Suriname

Women seem to suffer more from the corona crisis than men. This is reported by Rabobank, which research has done to the broad prosperity in the Netherlands. Broad prosperity encompasses the general well-being of people, and in addition to material prosperity, it also covers matters such as health, education, the environment and living environment. The Rabobank survey shows that women have deteriorated in more areas in the past year than men.

Men have improved in terms of work-life balance, possibly because they have started working from home more often. This also applies to women, but the progress there is much smaller. Women have fallen significantly in terms of health, social involvement and personal development. In men, the decline in health is “somewhat significant,” the bank says.

Both men and women have improved in terms of income and job security. A possible explanation for this could be government support measures, the researchers say. More research is needed to gain a better understanding of where the differences in broad prosperity development between men and women come from.

According to the researchers, the effects on general prosperity in our country are clear. “Apart from the possible consequences of the phasing out of the support measures for income and job security, it is already clear that corona has indeed affected our broad prosperity. Last year we saw that the broad prosperity had deteriorated in the dimensions subjective well-being, social contacts and housing, this year the health dimension will be added.”
