Women-owned companies: Hamburg ranks third nationwide | NDR.de – News

Women are taking the helm: Hamburg is one of the top cities nationwide when it comes to women taking over companies. This is a result of the new succession monitor presented by the Chamber of Commerce and Crafts together with the Guarantee Bank.

Hamburg is still a long way from achieving true parity when it comes to company takeovers. But the city still has a 28 percent female share. That is third place nationwide – the Saarland is the leader. The Succession Monitor the well-known Hamburg fashion store Thomas-i-Punkt. The two daughters took over the business from their father some time ago, in the fourth generation.

Around 11,000 Hamburg companies need successors

This is one of several examples with which the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Crafts and the Guarantee Bank want to encourage people to take over an existing company. And this often pays off: in many cases, sales increase after a takeover or at least remain at a similar level. The Chamber of Commerce estimates that in the coming years 11,000 Hamburg companies will need a successor – or a successor, in fact.

Female entrepreneurs join forces

If you don’t want to take over a company alone, you can do it as part of a team – which is often the case. The Chamber advises all entrepreneurs to start looking for suitable candidates at the age of 57 and advises many owners every year in their search.
