Women leading demonstration plots | RCN Radio

In the program Tierra de Sueños of RCN Radio, we bring examples of inclusion and equity in the Colombian countryside with women in rural areas who have difficulties accessing training processes on various topics such as the use and appropriation of technologies and technical assistance.

This is due to the overload of work derived from productive and reproductive activities that they carry out on their farm and at home, which require long hours dedicated, for example, to caring for minors, the elderly and various farm activities. This situation has generated unproductiveness in their production units, an increase in the socioeconomic inequality gap, which in turn is triggered in gender violence.

Well, to help with that burden and improve your quality of life, the Commercial Alliances Program promotes activities such as the establishment of demonstration plots that contribute to the use and appropriation of new technologies, in addition to promoting the development of capacities to promote the participation of women in different agricultural activities.

According to the productive activity that takes place in each plot, various technologies are implemented in process such as germination, liming, tracing, hole and sowing, implementation of fertilization plans according to the particularities of each land, pruning, productive infrastructure and MIPE among other.

The demonstration plots, in addition to improving the productivity and profitability of the productive unit, become field schools that tend to strengthen the technical capacity of producers in the region, promote knowledge transfer processes and strengthen leadership in the women, as they appropriate practical knowledge and contribute to its dissemination in their territories.

In the Asmucafé organization, in Tambo Cauca, Ana Beiba Orozco has the support plot, which at the beginning of the program had a production of 900 kilos of coffee per hectare per year. With the implementation of technologies in his plot he manages to increase production to 1,457 kilos hectares per year; likewise, the performance factor and the cup profile generated a premium and its product was marketed in international markets thanks to its commercial partner.

We invited Zully Solarte, coordinator of the San Lorenzo-Caldono-Cauca Resguardo Agreement and Anabeiba Orozco, coffee producer- Asmucafé – Tambo- Cauca.
