Jakarta –
The question ‘when to get married’ is not the only burden faced by women in their 30s. The risk of bone loss or osteoporosis also lurks at that age.
Health practitioner Dr. Faisal Parlindungan SpPD-KR said that checking bone conditions is needed in your 30s because osteoporosis does not only attack the elderly. Hormonal disorders can cause bone density to decrease more quickly.
“Bone density reaches its peak, which is usually in the third decade in your 30s, after that it starts to decline,” he said when talking to detikcom recently.
Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Osteoporosis Association (PEROSI) Dr Tirza Z Tamin, SpKFR(K) reminded that osteoporosis often has no symptoms. Therefore, it is very important to have an examination before the condition gets worse.
“What are the symptoms? Sometimes there are no symptoms, suddenly pain appears in the area of the spine, pelvis and joints, it turns out that when examined, it has been broken due to osteoporosis,” explained Dr. Tirza.
Even so, there are several conditions that need to be watched out for as signs of osteoporosis. For example, if your height decreases, one of the causes is scoliosis, which could be an early sign of osteoporosis.
Apart from examinations, Dr. Faisal reminded that women should start ‘saving’ for bone health. This includes maintaining a nutritious diet and increasing physical activity.
“So it is very good if at a young age we maintain bone health, in other words, save bone density with a healthy lifestyle,” said Dr. Faisal.
