On the international day against violence against women, ten female members of Extinction Rebellion (XR) bare their breasts on the Mont des Arts in Brussels. They each wore a letter of the English word ’emergency’ on their bodies, followed by the symbol for femininity (circle with cross underneath).

The women were dressed in black. Their action wanted to raise the vulnerability of women in a system that is still characterized by patriarchy. Patriarchy is a form of society in which men play a dominant role.
The female activists also denounced the high number of femicides (murders of women) of late.
