The Confederation of Federations and Associations of Families and Women in Rural Areas (AFAMMER)in collaboration with the association that works for climate action Legaciesis carrying out the program ‘Roots: Women, Agroecology and Proximity’, which aims to connect producers with consumer groups, hospitality services, canteens, work centers, training centers, administrations, catering and restaurant services, and consumption in general. In this way, we search make small farmers visible and bet on local or proximity products and avoid intermediaries as much as possible, helping at the same time to stop depopulation.
Specifically, through the program “Raíces: Women, Agroecology and Proximity” and focused on the province of Almería, the actions that will be carried out will be the following:
– They will work on creating a producer network connected to distributors of food products, to promote “short channels”.
– They will organize an eco-market with producers involved in the project.
– A quality seal of the participating products, highlighting their organic, local and women’s origin.
Thus, the 6 of April will take place eco-fair in the town of Adra in which around 40 stands are expected to participate that promote the local economy and local and trusted products.
For Pere Juradodirector of Legacies: “The ecological and organic agriculture production It has a significance that goes far beyond a label. Farmers are the soul of the people; Without our agriculture we would not be what we are. Buying local is supporting our farmers, our economy, a very important sector in Spain, even more so in regions like this.”
For the national president of AFAMMER, Carmen Quintanilla“the intention is that this project that has begun in the province of Almería, ‘takes root’ and expands to other provinces in Spain, as it is a program that was born with the vocation of helping our rural medium that has been forgotten and unattended, and to the activity that occurs in it.”
The program also takes special account of the role of rural women as an essential axis in the development of their territories. Women who are highly involved in preserving their territories and preventing them from disappearing and with a great capacity for leadership and entrepreneurial initiative.
