Woman’s Toes Crushed by Abandoned Concrete Block in Marseille: Who’s at Fault?

The scene occurred at rue d’Oran, in the 4th arrondissement of Marseille. The concrete block weighs approximately 30 kg.

When she meets a journalist from Provence to evoke her prejudice, Léa stands on crutches. At the beginning of April, the young mother of three children was going to drop off her daughter with the nanny, when a concrete block fell on her foot, rue d’Oran, in Marseille (4th arrondissement).

“The concrete block fell on my foot and broke two of my toes,” she confided to the daily. “I have a hematoma on my foot, another on my calf. The stroller was ejected, the wheel came unsoldered with the shock. I have six weeks of medical boots and rehabilitation is to be expected”, list Leah.

The concrete block, which weighs around 30 kg, was lying vertically, probably abandoned by a company, details La Provence. “By the way, I must have unbalanced him, especially since we were walking in the direction of descent,” explains the mother.

Responsibility not yet established

Now without a stroller, she has to carry her little girl every day. Which causes her neck pain, knowing that “I have no one to support me,” says Léa.

“I am determined to have my damage recognized. I plan to file a complaint.”

Without hospitalization, the young woman was not able to benefit from her mutual insurance. In terms of responsibility, the metropolis and the municipality pass the buck. “The metropolis only manages bulky waste, not illegal dumping,” say the community services, contacted by La Provence. On the side of the town hall, always contacted by the daily, we respond that “maintenance of the road is the responsibility of the metropolis”.

The company that leaves its materials on the public highway risks a fine of between 1,500 and 2,500 euros.
