“Woman’s Race for Research floods the streets of Logroño with pink to raise funds for cancer research”

Logroño, (EFE).- The 11,000 participants in the eighth edition of the Women’s Race for Research have flooded the streets of downtown Logroño with pink this Sunday with their energy and enthusiasm with the aim of raising funds to fight cancer .

For yet another year, the society from Logroño has turned to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), which organizes this sporting event to finance four pre-doctoral fellowships, another post-doctoral fellowship and a research project on this disease.

Thus, dressed in the already traditional pink shirt of the race, women of all ages have shared a morning walk, each one at their own pace, although there have also been runners who have taken advantage of this solidarity event to practice sports.

Before leaving, next to the Bank of Spain, the participants shared dances and applause to the sound of music, while conveying their support for people with cancer, with a banner with the message “Breast cancer. If possible”.

In the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where the finish line was, all the participants and their companions enjoyed a massive Zumba class and inflatables for children, after which the trophies were awarded to the runners.

In this edition, the most participatory school has been Escolapias Sotillo and the company with the most attendees the Santa Justa residence, both in Logroño.

The president of the regional Executive, Concha Andreu; the mayor of Logroño, Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza; the Government delegate in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz; among other authorities.

In statements to journalists, the president of the AECC in La Rioja, Elena Eguizábal, considered the massive participation in this race “exciting”, “in which, in addition to helping a good cause, all the participants have a great time ”.

Due to the pandemic, this race had not been able to be held in April since 2019, and in the two previous editions it was moved to September, he recalled.

La Rioja, solidarity and participatory

Eguizábal also thanked the collaboration in “row 0” for those who cannot attend and added that many companies have sponsored their workers to register for the race.

“La Rioja is very supportive and very participative. This day is a luxury ”, she congratulated herself.

For his part, Andreu described the atmosphere in the race as “spectacular”, due to “the encouragement, smile and desire to collaborate” shown by all the attendees.

The territorial director of the northern zone of the AECC, Ana Almena, has insisted that the objective of this association is to reach 2030 with a 70% survival rate, for which reason she has opted to “give visibility” to the disease.
