Woman’s Near-Death Experience Using Diabetes Medication for Weight Loss – A Warning Story

Australia – Intending to lose weight by injecting diabetes medication, Lysnay McAvoy did not expect that the effects could be fatal. The mother of three children initially tried it by buying the drug online.

Quoted from The Sun, the drug used is known as GLP-1 RA. Initially the drug was developed to treat diabetes. However, now it is often used to lose weight because it can suppress the patient’s appetite.

Lynsay claims that the drug helped her lose half her body weight in a few weeks. However, one morning after he injected the drug, his condition deteriorated drastically.

“At that time I wanted to lose a little weight in my stomach, and that was ridiculous because my weight was actually quite good, around 50 kg. But, I didn’t like seeing fat in my stomach which affected this appearance,” said Lyndsay, quoted by The Sun , Friday (29/12/2023).

“Finally I bought it through someone online. I didn’t check it and just trusted the person. It cost around 50 euros (854 thousand rupiah) for two weeks and had to inject myself every day,” he continued.

After doing it regularly for two months, Lynsay succeeded in suppressing her appetite. During that time, he didn’t eat much and his weight dropped quite a bit.

“Once I injected the medicine, my palms were very itchy. But this can be treated with antihistamines,” he said.

Bad Side Effects Appear

Seeing the satisfactory results, Lynsay ordered the drug again. He usually injects his medicine before going to work.

However, this time another bad reaction appeared again within seconds. At that time, he was getting ready to go to work.

“Within seconds, my tongue was really itchy and swollen. Then my eyeballs started to feel hot. I could barely open my eyes, it hurt so much,” explained Lyndsay.

“I looked in the mirror and you couldn’t see any white in my eyes, my eyes were really red. There was itching all over my body again, my palms were very itchy,” he continued.

Knowing the reaction to the drug, Lyndsay started taking antihistamines again. However, this time his heart started beating fast and sweat poured out. He crawled and felt like his heart was going to explode.

“I knew something was wrong. I thought I was dying at that time,” he said.

Lyndsay fainted and hit her head on the wall. This left him unconscious and dislocated his jaw.

When she woke up, Lynsay immediately called an ambulance and her mother who lived next door. His head suffered a brain injury severe enough to cause him to faint four times.

After being examined by a doctor, it turned out that Lyndsay was experiencing the final stages of anaphylactic shock which caused her organs to shut down and could lead to death. At that time, he was shocked and embarrassed because he had become a bad example for his three children.

“The doctors said the antihistamines I took from the start could endanger my life, I feel lucky to be alive,” he explained.

Lynsay did not name the injections used, but there are many unregulated companies selling injections with potentially dangerous or deadly consequences.

GLP-1 drugs including semaglutide are the active ingredients in Ozempic and Wegovy injections. According to the NHS, the drug can help with weight loss. However, the former is only given to type 2 diabetes patients.
