Woman with dementia found dead – ten kilometers from health centre

The 80-year-old woman was found dead along a forest road in Nordmarka, about 15 hours after a taxi driver dropped her off at the Lilleborg health centre.

Tor Arild Albrigtsen was going out with the hay for the horses, when he saw some dark clothes on the ground outside the paddock. He thought someone had lost a jacket.

– When I got closer and saw a person lying there, I immediately tensed up a bit, the 79-year-old farmer from Nordsæter tells VG.

NORDMARKA: Tor Arild Albrigtsen found the missing woman with dementia in Oslo on 7 December.

It was after nine in the morning of December 8th. There was frost on the grass. By night the temperature had dropped to minus nine degrees.

– Little dressed

– I thought it was strange that an elderly lady was so thinly dressed. I realized she had been in an accident the night before and had been lying there all night.

Albrigtsen went straight home and called the police.

The search for the woman which had been missing for half a day, it was finished.

HORSES: The woman lay by Ullevålseterveien, near the corral where Tor Arild Albrigtsen’s horses are kept.

A taxi from Pasiontreiser OUS had taken her from Diakonhjemmet to the health center in the late afternoon of 7 December.

The driver says he couldn’t find the staff and left her inside the ward. The health center says the door was locked and they never let her in.

Just two hours after the health center received a message from the hospital that the woman was on her way, the woman was called and a search operation was launched.

Ten kilometres

The death is being examined by the state administrator and investigated by the police.

The police do not know how the woman got there from the health center in Maridalen.

– How she got there will be a natural part of the further investigation, says Section Chief Rune Skjold in the Oslo Police District.

The distance from the Lilleborg health center to the Ullevålseterveien discovery site within Maridalsvannet is about ten kilometres.

– Almost incomprehensible

– It’s so strange that it’s almost incomprehensible. He must have taken a bus, he couldn’t have gone far in the dark, says Tor Arild Albrigtsen.

The bus stops a kilometer below Nordsæter, where Albrigtsen has become the last horse handler to thin out for the Oslo Forest Service.

– I think maybe she went down to say goodbye to the horses and fell and hit herself.

Rune Skjold of the police, for the sake of the investigation, will not reveal what appears in the interim autopsy report.

– The report does not provide any suspicious or punishable elements in relation to the death itself, said the section chief.

HOSPITAL: The Deacon’s House is responsible for transporting patients to the health center.

Investigate the health system

The survey is aimed at the follow-up of the health service.

Diakonhjemmet is responsible for ensuring that patient transport is safe and apologizes for the incident. The nursing home agency regrets that the woman was not wanted sooner.

Patient Trips OUS has over 900,000 assignments annually. This is the first death related to patient transport since 2014, informs the VG company.
