Woman Wins $100,000 Powerball Lottery Using ChatGPT Numbers
Tammy Carvey, a 45-year-old resident of Wyandotte, Michigan, near Detroit, won a 100.000-dollar Powerball prize in the September 6 drawing by using a number combination generated by artificial intelligence, according to reports from the American news agency UPI and regional outlets including Nice-Matin and La Nouvelle République.
Carvey purchased her ticket online after noticing that the multi-state lottery jackpot had surpassed one billion dollars. “I only play Powerball when the jackpot is really high, so I bought a ticket,” Carvey said in a statement reported by the Detroit News and cited by Nice-Matin. “I asked ChatGPT for a combination of Powerball numbers, and those are the ones I played on my ticket. My husband and I couldn’t believe it.”
Drawing Results and the Power Play Option
During the September 6 drawing, four of the five white balls and the red Powerball matched Carvey’s digital selection. Initial checks on internet search engines indicated a 50.000-dollar prize, but logging into the official Michigan Lottery account revealed that an additional investment of one dollar for the Power Play multiplier option doubled the total payout to 100.000 dollars, approximately 85.000 euros.
“That’s what I thought I won,” Carvey explained to La Nouvelle République regarding her initial internet search. “It wasn’t until I logged into my account on the Michigan Lottery website that I realized I had added the Power Play to my ticket and had actually won 100.000 dollars! My husband and I couldn’t be more surprised.”
Lottery Guidance on Randomness
The Michigan Lottery noted that the win resulted from chance rather than any predictive capability of artificial intelligence. Officials emphasize that lottery draws remain entirely random and that no software program, algorithm, or AI tool can predict winning numbers or guarantee a payout.
Carvey stated that she plans to allocate the winnings toward paying off her mortgage and increasing her personal savings.
