A 28-year-old woman has been arrested by the Surinamese police for alleged theft. Among other things, a 42-inch television set and two laptops were removed from the home of an injured party. Two watches, jewelry and perfumes were taken from the home of a second injured party, reports the Suriname Police Force.
The police started an investigation in which camera images showed that a particular passenger car had been used in both burglaries. By means of the license plate number, the police found out that the suspected woman YS had rented the car from a car rental company.
According to statement by YS, she rented the vehicle in her name for a friend of hers. She then stated that only one friend’s nickname is known to her and that she does not know where her friend lives. YS was tracked down by the police of the Uitvlugt office on Thursday 1 April and arrested at her home address in Uitvlugt.
In the interest of the investigation, YS was placed in custody by the police after consultation with the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service. The vehicle that she hired in her name has been confiscated pending the investigation reports the police.
