NEW YORK — A 22-year-old aspiring model is charged with murder and attempted murder for allegedly killing her father and seriously injuring his sister at their Brooklyn home a day ago, police said. ORA bloodbath in which he first claimed the attack had been carried out by suspected masked invaders who had entered his home, authorities added.
Nikki Secondino is also charged with gun possession after the shocking turn of events. She was taken from a Brooklyn police station Thursday night and appeared to have cuts on her hands. It wasn’t immediately clear if they were self-inflicted. It was also unknown whether she had a lawyer.
Detectives spent much of Thursday searching for two suspected suspects who were dressed in black and wearing balaclavas. This was due to descriptions Nikki Secondino gave them of the alleged assailants who broke into her family home in Bensonhurst in 17th street that morning. Then, they say, the defendant’s web of lies began to unravel.
Nikki Secondino would later tell investigators that she fabricated the home invasion story after she herself allegedly stabbed her 61-year-old father, Carlo Secondino, to death and injured her 19-year-old sister, Liana, with serious injuries, according to a a senior NYPD source.
Her younger sister was reportedly still fighting for her life in the hospital according to the latest NYPD update.
There was no immediate word on a possible motive behind the attack. Neighbors said officers had visited the apartment in the past, taking calls about arguing between family members.
A neighbor who doesn’t want to be named said his eldest daughter knocked on his door and asked him to open it. At the same time, the neighbor said she heard her father yelling for someone to call 9-1-1, and she also said she heard screams and the sound of bodies hitting the wall.
She added that she opened the door and what she saw scared her so much that she slammed the door shut.
“I saw blood in the corridor and that’s when I shook myself. I saw blood in the hallway and closed it,” the neighbor said.
Neighbors have told our sister chain Nbc New York that police officers had visited the apartment in the past, responding to phone calls about family disputes.
An investigation is underway.
